ART+TECH and OSNAP

Last week I started an art+tech blog for www.akimbo.ca It's good timing and a good fit. I first took shoes at Akimbo last year after I asked about the then forthcoming APP. Kim Fullerton, Alimbo's leading lady, liked some of my ideas, so she tasked me with rolling the app out to the public and the gallery set. Good times.
FF to today, Akimbo just opened a new office at 80 Spadina this week, shared with the smart and handsome men of ArtBarrage. it's raining, but I'm happy to be out of my PJs and away from the television. sorry Nate.
The new Blog will be about bits of social media best practices for the arts professional with trend sightings and commentary on projects which fuse art and technology. Also I've got a guest list of people who are either working in social media in the arts or are doing something innovative with tech in an art project. I'm looking forward to reviewing a few art and tech festivals in Canada and I'll salt the blog with a few untech pieces catered toward Luddites in the industry. I love Luddites, don't get me wrong. They are the curmudgeonry smartypantses that challenge my day with their hate-ons for the new. Making them smile makes me laugh. Winning.
I've got a couple posts under my belt so check them out on the from page of www.akimbo.ca and let me know what you think.
In related news, there's a new arts meetup starting this Friday. It's the Ontario Social Networking Arts Professionals - found on twitter under #OSNAP. Coined by Holly Knowlman. from the AGO, who's on guest list for the ART+TECH blog this month.
If you are an arts worker who uses social media as part of your day job, please join us at the Sin&Redemption Pub on McCaul St by the AGO in Toronto this Friday at 7pm. If you are not in Toronto, let me know, we are going to try to live cast the event for those not in the GTA. Write me at jamesfowlerart at gmail dot com if you want more deets.
